PORTLAND, Ore. – Consistent with their ongoing social responsibility platform, On Board Doing Good Together, Pacific Seafood Group has been leading with sustainability as their primary focus in support of their recently launched brand of products, Pacific Sustainable Seafood™.
The family owned seafood company based in Portland, Ore., was pleased to learn recently that The Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program has given Steelhead Trout a BEST CHOICE recommendation. The program’s recommendations help consumers choose seafood that is fished or farmed in ways that have less impact on the environment and helps consumers and businesses make choices for healthy oceans.

Pacific Seafood’s Pacific Aquaculture Steelhead Farm on the Columbia River in Washington State earned Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification by the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) in 2013. This was the first Salmon/Steelhead farm to be BAP certified in the U.S. This certification defines the most important elements of responsible aquaculture and provides quantitative guidelines by which to evaluate adherence to those practices.
“Monterey Bay’s Steelhead Trout recommendation for BEST CHOICE along with our farm’s BAP certification, demonstrates that we are living out our company vision of “providing the healthiest protein on the planet while promoting sustainable practices,” said Company CEO and owner, Frank Dulcich upon hearing the news of the GREEN rating.
Pacific Seafood purchased the Steelhead Farm, located on the Columbia River in Nespelem, WA on the Colville Nation, in 2008. Many members of the Native American Colville tribe of the Pacific Northwest are employed by the farm. Over the years the two groups have developed a strong working relationship and together they have produced quality Steelhead Trout for the consumer.
Steelhead (trout), Oncorhynchus mykiss, is indigenous to the Columbia River and characterized by its red flesh from natural pigments, rich flavor and extremely high content of Omega 3 oils. Pacific’s Columbia River Steelhead is the “BEST CHOICE”.
